New Feature: Instagram Trial Reels — Test Your Reels Before Sharing With Followers

Schedule Instagram Trial Reels with Schedulala. Show your reels to non-followers first, gauge performance, then share with your audience when you're ready.

Instagram Trial Reels feature - test reels with non-followers before sharing

Ever posted a reel and immediately regretted it? Maybe the hook didn't land, or the audio felt off, or your followers just scrolled past. Instagram's Trial Reels let you test the waters first — your reel goes to non-followers only, so you can see if it hits before your audience ever sees it.

Schedulala now supports Trial Reels. Toggle it on, pick your strategy, schedule it, done. Here's how it works.

What Are Trial Reels?

Trial Reels are a native Instagram feature that lets you publish a reel to non-followers first. Think of it as a soft launch. Your existing followers won't see it in their feed or on your profile grid — only new people browsing Reels will.

After 24 hours, Instagram shows you how the trial performed: views, likes, comments, shares. Based on that data, you decide what happens next. Keep it as a trial, share it with everyone, or trash it. No harm done either way.

ℹ️Why this matters
Most creators post reels blind. Trial Reels remove the guesswork. You get real performance data from real people before committing to your profile. It's A/B testing for your content.

How It Works in Schedulala

1. Create a Reel Post

Start a new post and select your Instagram account. Add your video — if it's a video file, Schedulala automatically detects it as a reel. Write your caption, add hashtags, all the usual stuff.

2. Toggle Trial Reel On

In the Instagram options panel, you'll see a Trial Reel toggle. Flip it on, then choose your graduation strategy: Manual or Auto. That's it — two clicks.

3. Schedule and Forget

Hit "Schedule" or "Add to Queue" like normal. When the time comes, Schedulala publishes your reel as a trial. Instagram handles the rest — showing it to non-followers and collecting performance data. You can check back later to see how it did.

Graduation Strategies

When you create a Trial Reel, you pick what happens if it performs well. Instagram calls this the "graduation strategy."

Manual
How It WorksYou review the trial results and decide whether to share with followers yourself
Best ForCreators who want full control over what hits their profile
Auto (Recommended)
How It WorksInstagram automatically shares the reel with your followers if it performs well with non-followers
Best ForBusy creators who want a hands-off approach
💡Which one should you pick?
Go with Auto if you post frequently and don't want to babysit every reel. Pick Manual if you're selective about what appears on your grid — maybe you're building a curated aesthetic or your brand has strict content guidelines.

Requirements

  • Public professional account (Creator or Business)
  • 1,000+ followers
  • Reel post type — Trial Reels only work with reels, not stories or carousels

If your account doesn't meet these requirements, the Trial Reel toggle won't appear in the Instagram options.
