Facebook has more image formats than any other social platform. Between your profile, cover photo, posts, Stories, Reels, events, and Groups, there are at least a dozen different sizes to keep track of. This guide breaks down every format so your images always display correctly.
For regular feed posts, you have two main options. Link posts with previews work best at 1200 x 630 pixels (1.91:1 ratio) since that matches the preview card dimensions. Standalone images without links look great as squares at 1080 x 1080 pixels, though Facebook will accept almost any aspect ratio.
Cover photos are where most people run into trouble. The desktop display is 820 x 312 pixels, but mobile crops this significantly on the sides. Your safest bet is to create at 820 x 312 but keep all important elements within the center 640 pixels. Text and logos near the edges will get cut off on phones.
Profile pictures display at 170 x 170 pixels on desktop and 128 x 128 on mobile, but Facebook recommends uploading at least 180 x 180 for clarity. Like most platforms, they display as circles, so center your face or logo and avoid important details near the edges.
Stories and Reels both use the standard vertical format: 1080 x 1920 pixels at 9:16 aspect ratio. This is the same size used by Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts, making it easy to repurpose content across platforms.
Event covers and Group covers have their own unique sizes. Events use 1920 x 1005 pixels while Groups use 1640 x 856 pixels. Both are wider aspect ratios designed for their specific layout contexts.
